In theatre arts today we were to remodel our face (using makeup) to look like a French Neoclassical theatre young girl, if that makes sense! Here are some general facts that I learnt whilst remodeling my face to create another!

  • My face was a canvas, I needed to remodel it to suit that era.
  • I highlighted the bone where I wanted the light to catch, making it appear that I had higher cheek bones!
  • I had to ignore my own facial features, such as lip line, eyebrow lines and the shape of my nose and recreate it completely.
  • Darker colours were used to make my face have shadow where it was needed.
  • I used red lipstick on my cheeks to make the blush look a more reddy-colour.
  • I had to blend everything in so that it looked like a natural mask.
  • The worst part! Covering my eyebrows in wax to create new eyebrows which were much higher and thinner than my original ones. I drew the eyebrows with black eyeliner.
  • My lips were covered with foundation so that any natural colour could not be seen. Then I drew in the shape I wanted for my lips with eye liner and coloured it in with red lipstick!
  • At the beginning, I used stippling to apply the foundation.

It really does take practice to get everything precise, it took me four-five times to draw my eyebrows so they appeared equal! I now have great respect and admiration for those who had to act in that makeup as it felt quite heavy to have on, and for those who had/have to apply it, it takes two hours plus!!!
