.:Kate! Stand still and talk slower!:.
It was rather windy in Kilmore today. We were moved to room 72 as the art exhibition was being set up in our usual room. We began by watching small parts of a Shakespeare documentary which was very interesting. The main reason for watching it was to see a very small part of Queen Margeret which Ronelle is playing. I’m sure it was very useful for her to see a different interpretation than her own.
After this, we each had to see our teacher one by one to practice our monologues. Ronelle was first, and Ashleigh and I were sent out of the room to learn our lines. We sat alone and began to learn our lines. We both had been practicing previously, so we only had a few more lines to learn. It was difficult, but I seemed to get the general gist of the lines, or so I thought!!
Ronelle exited, and I entered. It was quite daunting, Mrs. Anketell was sitting on a chair, and I was to perform to her. Very scary! I set up my implied others, and my teacher gave me a few starting hints that I took on board. I was to bow to the Judge, and then nod at Shylock in recognition. I then stood in one spot, pondering for a little while. I was very nervous. I began to speak, and I wasn’t surprised that I was immediately interrupted. I was speaking much too fast! And I was moving all around the place!
As time went by, I seemed to slow my voice down and stand still. Although this will take a lot of practice for me to achieve. I also discussed my costume with Mrs. Anketell. We decided that I needed to be completely ‘not myself’. I’ve decided to dress myself in a blond wig and a professional lawyers costume. I also made the big decision to turn Portia who is initially dressed as a male so that she can speak at court in disguise, back into a female in disguise. This is partially due to the fact that I didn’t want to be dressed as a man again, whilst Ronelle gets to dress up in her fancy suit and Ashleigh gets to look extra pretty in her fairy outfit. I felt a bit out of it. But, I also just wanted to try something a bit different, to see if it worked.
Finally, our teacher gave us our research investigations back. This was a little daunting. I recieved 23/40, which you can imagine isn’t that great, but it’s okay because the other girls seemed to get around the same marks. Mrs. Anketell said that we did really good for these being our first trials.
