.:Becoming Portia:.

We went through my monologue first today. The first time I ran through it, I felt rather nervous and I did ‘mess it up’ a bit. But once I had taken into account my Laban movements needed to make myself into Portia, I calmed down, and performed my monologue much better than I originally had. I listened to Ms. Anketell make notes about what everyone needed to do in terms of making their monologue better. We really focused on the Laban movements and breath control. I took into account that my character, Portia, was a character who dabbed, glided and pressed. This is unlike me, as a person, so I am trying really hard to become Portia.

We have a full dress rehearsal on Monday. I realise my teacher was a little annoyed I didn’t bring most of my costume on Friday, but I found out at 11pm the night before! I am going to have by costume by Monday, and hopefully I will look less manly than before! :P Also, Ms. Anketell had the brilliant idea of filming us on Monday so that we can sit down and watch our performance and see what we need to do. I am really keen on this idea, so that I can make notes about what I need to do. From watching my performance of Tartuffe as Orgon, I really understood that I rushed through my lines, and that really did not sound very good. I really want to focus on my timing for this particular character, and slow it down!!
